Make your fall writing time creative and engaging with this Disguise a Pumpkin craft and writing activity! Students use a blank pumpkin as their starting point, transform it into something completely different with their own drawings, and then write about the disguise they created. Students can turn their pumpkin into an animal, food, person, job, object, character, or an idea straight from their imagination. The pumpkin template is intentionally blank inside, giving students plenty of room to create an original disguise. After designing their pumpkin, choose from different writing options to match your students’ needs—from simple supported sentences to descriptive writing and an imaginative story. Developing Writers: Students use descriptive details to help a reader picture their pumpkin disguise. Independent Writers: Students imagine their disguised pumpkin coming to life and develop the idea into a short story. This makes it easy to use the same creative project with students who have different writing needs. HOW IT WORKS Students first brainstorm what their pumpkin could become. Next, they use the completely blank pumpkin template as their drawing canvas and create their disguise. After completing the artwork, students move into a writing activity appropriate for their level.
