This download is a five part science experiment designed to show students what happens to historical documents before they are discovered by archeologists.
The experiments assume students have some knowledge of the history of writing in Sumer and Ancient Egypt. Before conducting experiments they will need to have a piece of clay and a piece of papyrus they are willing to destroy!
Each experiment simulates challenges the clay and papyrus go through as they travel down through the millennia to present day discovery.
PLEASE NOTE: Experiment 4 uses an oven and bakes the materials. This may need to be adapted for a classroom setting.
